hello.

I've just bought a LaCie 160 GB external firewire hard drive. Windows recognises it as a local disk but when i come to format it to NTFS, the progress bar fills up (takes about half an hour) and then i get an error message saying windows cannot format the drive. anyone have any ideas or advice??

Thanks in advance.

right click my computer and select manage
go to disk manger and check the external hard drive from there
if the bar on top of it is all blue then it's fine if part of it is green than format it there.

Have you tried using the drive manufacturers software.
