The control panel will not open on a Window 2000 server machine. I do not get an error message. The window just hangs. The system32 folder will not open either. I can get to some features in the Control Panel, like Administrative Tools and Display Properties using other techniques. I can not open the Printers folder, Internet, or Add/Remove Software. I have not found any viruses or spyware. I believe some of the files in the system32 folder are corrupted. Is it possible to fix those files will out doing a complete reinstall of Windows 2000 server?

sfc /scannow

Have your windows CD ready

Also, visit windows update after the scan is complete

This will restore any lost or corrupted system files
