I'm beginning to hate the internet and all the people who create viruses.

I have a READ IT NOW!!! Icon on my desktop after Norton detected the virus which it can't "Fix".

My homepage has been changed but I can't change it back.

Tons of popups pile on the window screen even when IE is not open.

Here is the log:

Hello koretek. Thanks for coming.

The virus was located in the file msupdate in the system32 folder.

Norton can't find it now though. I rebooted twice and it didn't find any virus anymore, fortunately. But my homepage can't be changed back and I'm having popups even when IE is not open and no other programs are open.

I rescanned with hijackthis and the ones I deleted are back. They must've restored themselves or something..

Hi Jonathan,

You have a serious bad boy here, you wont be allowed to restart once the fix starts because this virus has a history of mutating and our efforts will be in vain, so when you are ready to make this an all out effort and carry this thru to the end then please follow these directions closely, thank you!

You WILL want to print out these instructions or save them to your desktop as a text file with Notepad because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.

Close all windows except HijackThis and let it "Fix" these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ictik.dll/sp.html#28129
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ictik.dll/sp.html#28129
