My computer wont play any DVDs

Hi, ive recently bought Black & White 2, a DVD rom, but it refused to play or even be acknowledged. My computer ignores DVDs.

This is a new problem, I used to be able to, and have sims 2 on dvd installed, but it is unusual as my system plays that. Video dvds dont work either, and the problem spread from being only in my old samsung dvd to my new emprex dvd-rw

can anyone help me?
