I have a NEC 3540 burner, but I have not been able to burn a DVD. I get the message that I need to insert a DVD-R, which I've had done. The comp shows the 3540. I've used 3 diffent media, the latest Verbatim. I've tried 4 burning programs, the last being Nero 6.0. I've updated the NEC firmware to 1.03. But I still get that same reply. Thanks for any help

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. Is this a new burner that is under warranty? If it is, I would take this up with NEC before I did anything else. Does the burner READ cds or dvds? Has the burner ever worked properly before and then, just stopped? There is a a registry fix from M$ for drive not recordable, which may be worth trying if it used to work, then stopped: http://support.micro...b;EN-US;Q316529 drive not recordable
