desktop shows up then all icons are gone and I get the hourglass pointer. However, if I set DHCP client to manual, xp will startup fine. Then I start DHCP and I get the internet. I'm on a dynamic ip isp so I really do need DHCP. I think a recent security update or hotfix might be responsible. I uninstalled all the ones I could from those recently installed but, no dice. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks, Keith! Will do even though it seems to have been resolved after I ran tuneup utilities 2006 trial. This site is great!!!

If you have good line speed, I would go with " if it ain't broke don't fix it "
