I've been using the WRT54G Linksys router for several years now and have a couple of them on hand. I keep things pretty basic - DHCP on, wireless security, and that's about it. I'm trying to get my DSL modem to work in bridge mode and allow my WRT to do all the network setup - i.e. Phone jack to 6100 to WRT to rest of my network (wireless and wired).
No matter what I do I can't get an IP or DNS Gateway from Verizon. If I connect my PC in this configuration - no IP. If the modem is in DHCP mode then it will provide an IP to the router (192.168.1.47) but seems to be a conflict between routers. With my cable modem I don't have any problems. BTW, I've tried 2 different WRT's and both have the same issue.
Setup
For the WRT54G I've put the settings back to factory default (DHCP on, etc...).
Here's the settings of the 6100:
- VC configuration: Protocol = Bridge, Mode = Bridge
- DHCP: Off
Looked through the 6100 spec and they don't discuss optional connections other than USB direct connection.
Verizon has provided limited to NO support and keep telling me to go to Linksys. Linksys tried to use PPoE which is not enabled for my DSL account (apparently, as per Verizon) - needless to say it doesn't work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
