Hello all -

My first post here. I have a relatively new notebook computer, and have been going through some difficulties installing some specialized audio interface drivers.

I just tried to do my first disk defrag on the machine, and after about 10 minutes it freezes, still at 1%. Does not respond to a Ctrl>Alt>Del and I can only shut it down by holding the power button. I'm not sure if this is caused by my recent travails with USB audio drivers or not, since this is the frist defrag I've tried on this machine. What kinds of things cause defrag freezes, or is there more info I need to supply for you to tell?

Thanks for any help

I all ways defrag and scandisk the harddrive while in safemode, b/c the computer only loads what is need to have a basic working system. Also it almost solves all the problems like yours, since there are less programs running in the backround so there is more resoures avb. for the defrag. To enter safe mode restart the computer and press F8 until you come to a screen that has the option to enter safe mode. Hope that this helps.

Thanks DHooper, that worked. It's up to 45% now and shows no sign of stopping. :-) Are there music/audio geeks here? :tazz:
