i like the internet settings suggestion and checking internally in the router....


SOG....from your g/f's pc...can you ping the router? can you get into the router's config page?

I say this because I have already bypassed the router and connected my girlfriend's computer directly to the back of the modem. The computer still will not connect to the internet.

I just wanted to make sure you had actually run the Network Setup Wizard, as that gets rid of alot of the basic problems.

Check DNS Settings
1) PING YAHOO.COM

2) PING 216.109.112.135

3) Flush your DNS Cache by going to Start, Run, type CMD, and then type: IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS - press enter.

4) Start, Run, CMD - Type: nslookup yahoo.com
You should recieve a similar result to this:

Server: gizmo54ps.bigpond.com
Address: 144.140.71.29

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: yahoo.com
Addresses: 216.109.112.135, 66.94.234.13

5) If you don't, then do the following:
(Start, Run, type CMD) Type: nslookup and press enter
Type: server 144.140.71.29 and press enter
Type: nslookup yahoo.com
Now you should recieve a window exactly identical to mine..

To use Netdiag the Support Tools must be installed
Use a retail XP CD and follow the following steps to install the Support Tools
A) Insert the CD and browse to the Support\Tools folder
B) Double-click on the setup file
C) Go through the prompts until you get to the "Select An Installation Type"
screen
D) Select Complete and click Next

Once setup completes or if the Support Tools are already installed:
A) Open a command prompt (Start, Run, type CMD and press 'OK').
B) Type netdiag /test:winsock and press Enter

It will return the test results for several network components including the Winsock; please paste the results.

SOG, when you connect directly to the modem..instead of the router...you need to set your ip back to automatic configuration...since you've got that static ip in there..it's out of the range of the modem..
