sounds played on my computer (games...apps) are intermittently distorted to the point of being unrecognizable(white noise). this seems to have occurred after the installation of a logitec web-cam, but after uninstalling and reinstalling the software, the problem remains. when i look at the device manager, i see a heading called "other devices". the icon is covered by a yellow question mark. when i click the plus sign to view the sub-category, it says "multimedia audio controller". this icon too is covered by a yellow question mark, but this one also has a small yellow exclamation mark on it. i suspect this is the problem, however i cannot seem to find out what this device is.

I have allowed windows to search for an updated driver, but alas windows was unable to do so.

i have tried to do a system recover to a date prior to the first incident, but windows was unable to restore to an earlier date.

i have run ad aware and spybot s&d to no avail.

anything you can suggest would be greatly appreciated
