ok to start i had to install windows 98 second edition on my computer and i guess it waz succsesful no problems... so when it came up, i waz prompted to a log on screen (which i wish to get rid of) and then when i logged in i waz given a 640*480 screen so i went to change that but it wouldnt let me or the 16 to 32 color change, there was no option for that either... so i cant install any games on there... also when i put in a cd in my computer (music) the cd player program opens up but then the computer freezes up... any advice what to do with these problems?

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. <_<

First you have a virus W32.Gaobot.gen!poly

You really need to install some anti-virus software on your computer. If you want something free, we recommend AVG: http://www.grisoft.c...s_dwnl_free.php
Download, install, update, and run a full system scan.

Next, your computer has a number of spyware programs that we need to remove. For more info on spyware see the Spyware Tools link in my signature.

Using Ad-aware: Open Ad-Aware and use the Check for updates now link. Download and accept the latest reference file. When finished click the Start button. When done scanning, the Abort button will change to Next. Click the Next button. Right-click in the Scanning Results window and click "Select all objects". Then click the "Next" button and confirm that you want to delete the selected entries.

When finished, Reboot your computer. Finally, reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed. <_<

also the first program u told me to install said it could not remove some stuff and this is what they were(when im running my computer ill get pop-ups from it saying virus detected)

1- in my document and settings/local settings- trojan horse, downloader, stubby a, infected, embedded object

2- windows/update12.js virus found start page, infected

3-windows/system32/secupd050104.exe trojan horse download eseporX infected

4-windows/system32/tksrv98.exe trojan horse download eseporJ infected

so i guess those could be left over viruses that failed to be healed when i rebooted my system like it asked... all the other 12 that came up were healed and i removed 149 items that the adware picked up... so we'll find out after u take a look at this log whats going on i guess... i really appritiate all the help that i recieve from this site and really thank you guys and you dont get the appritiation that you deserve <_<

p.s. i like the twins also :D

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

Try AIDA32 to identify your video card, it will likely also provide a link to the driver download.

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

If everything seems to be working okay you can delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks.

Did you find a video driver? If not, please start a new topic and we'll try to help :D

As always, we're glad to help, and the kind words give us motivation to continue <_<

P.S. Twins are up 7-2 over the Indians, but the Sox still have a game on us. :D

P.S.S. Do you think we should do a guide to building your own system? There's already many to be found on the Internet, but we could add our own touches. :D
