My computer was working fine yesterday. My son was playing a game on the internet (Runescape) and all of the sudden the computer froze, went to a dos screen and said "operating system not found". We have rebooted it and during the initial boot up as it is checking all of the hardware it says "ERROR 0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0". Does this mean that my hard drive has crashed?

hi,
it could be crashed but lets make sure its not before we do anything unnecessary. ok first of all i think you have a corrupt windows or your hd is toast. ok u need to boot with your windows xp cd in the drive. a screen should come up and you want to repair windows xp please read the following. repairing xp

if you get to a point where it asks you about reformating you mest up so restart. YOU DO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT YOU WILL LOOSE ALL YOUR DATA. by repairng windows xp you will keep all your apps and documents but you will looase sp2 and some drivers so do NOT go on the internet when it is done without running a windows update.

if you do not get into the screen where u can reinstall windows talk to me.

Hi Bob!
Thanks for writing me back. I did what you suggested and my xp disc said that the hard drive was not detected or something. I figured that that meant the hd was history. I bought a new one and we installed it. We put xp on it and it works. Now we are patiently reinstalling EVERYTHING! :tazz:

Thanks again.
