I ran through the steps in the tutorial, but when I run Spybot S&D or Ad Aware the programs hang or shut down while scanning through my temporary internet folders, when I try to access these folders on my own my explorer hangs or shuts down.

I ran Trojan Hunter and it removed one or two potential problems...but also hangs when I run a full system scan

Whatever is on my computer is slowing me down immensely, sometimes it jumps to different webpages (one that seems to come up often is 'StopZilla') and sometimes it just completely hangs my web browser. It also slows down or shuts down other applications I might be running.

at one point I believe I was infected with Trojan.startpage and symantec recommended that I open task manager and shutdown Rundll32.exe - when I do this I can access the internet but the scans are still very slow and eventually hang

The Hijack This log comprises of two broad sections - The list of running processes and the various registry entries. You havent posted the section comprising the list of running processes. Sometimes people miss the last part of the registry section.



When the Hijack This log opens, always use Ctrl+A to select the entire text and post it in your reply.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

Download and install CleanUp!

2. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.


3. Delete Rogue files

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

Files
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yaemu.exe


Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report. (You can only do this in Normal Mode and not in Safe Mode).

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report.

3. Clear Java Cache

Go to Start > Control Panel.

Double-click the Java icon (coffee cup) in the control panel. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon - please find the update button or tab in that Java control panel. Update your Java, and reboot.

After reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java icon.

Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button. There are three options on this window to clear the cache - leave ALL 3 checked:

1. Downloaded Applets
2. Downloaded Applications
3. Other Files

Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window.
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.

Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Ok, two issues - when I went into Java plug in (under control panel) none of what you described was there, there was no update or a temporary internet files - but I did clear the cache...

I'm also getting a norton pop up saying that there is a Trojan.Win32 on my computer - computer is running horribly slow...I was able to remove the howiper.exe though

on the old HJT log there was only the 04 - HKLM...hgqhp.exe file, I rebooted into safe mode and was able to remove it, I ran CleanUP and rebooted...

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

This will not delete the programs from your PC. This will only disable the programs from running at Start up and result in a faster PC. You can always run the programs manually by using the respective exe files or the shortcuts.


Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.


Please do a full system scan with Norton. Save the scan report. In case you are not able to save the report directly, then copy the details into a text file and save the text file.


Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Post the Norton scan report along with a fresh Hijack This log.

Also let me know the size of the hard disk of your PC and the amount of free space on it.

I can't thank you enough for your help...

I used HJT to "shutdown" all those files, it hasn't really helped the speed of the computer.

I'm running an ~75GB HD and have ~60GB free space...

I ran norton in safe mode and nothing was detected, it didn't give me a log or report I could save but here is basically what it had:

I was wondering about O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll - is that something to be concerned with?

That O20 is a legitimate entry. You can read more about it here.

Please donot fix anything without checking with me.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{6BB92323-9FDB-4191-A18B-BD4C687BA8A4}: NameServer = 85.255.116.57,85.255.112.218

Click FIX CHECKED. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log into this topic.
