I have lost a signifigant amount of files and folders in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents it appears random. as if a portion of my hard drive just went bad. This is an older computer and this is possible, I am looking for advice on steps to take to recover these lost files / directories.

Ideally, you should remove the drive before files are over written, then attempt a disk recovery tool after mounting the drive in another system that reads NTFS.

The more you use the disk the less likely it will be you will recover the files
