Please help, everytime I try to download yahoo messanger I get a message that says I can't because I am missing a YML. DLL file. I am missing others as well according to different error messages. I sent in a log and did what it said but still I can not load messanger.
Can someone help?
PS I am a newbie as if you couldn't tell

Hope this helps for now, otherwise you may have to try an earlier restore point. When downloading, you should be trying to save Yahoo IM to disk. If you have any previous version of Yahoo IM, I would uninstall it before starting the new install.

You didn't mention what other DLLs are missing. Yml.dll is Yahoo's library file needed by the Yahoo! Messenger appliation which you probably know already.

You should be able to at least download the IM, but there may be some security settings or popup blockers, etc. which may give you problems.

Heya. Im also having problems with yahoo im. I download it, and it goes though all the instuctions. then when its completed, a messsage comes up saying "CoCreateInstance for the MyYahoo DLL failed!" Can you help? Do i have to go onto the DLL site you gave?

There must be something about Win XP because I never have had problems downloading ANY IM using Win ME. Use to have problems with Win 98/98SE but not on IM's. I have my CD for Win XP Pro for ages, but keep putting off the install because of the issues with it and SP2. LakeMIgal uses Win ME so it just goes to show you there are other factors in play. Hopefully, everyone is using the latestest updates for browsers, download managers, critical updates installed, etc.

This is all I can think of right now to get you started. This from Yahoo at Yahoo Messenger :

1)

"CoCreate Instance for MyYahoo DLL failed..."
There are two reasons why you may receive this error message:

Certain system files on your computer may be old and need to be updated. The only way to update these system files is to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or above on your computer.

If you use Netscape as your browser, you don't have to switch to Internet Explorer or even run Explorer once. In order to update your system files, you just have to install Internet Explorer.

You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer here:

You may have Yahoo! Messenger installed in more than one place on your computer. To correct this problem, uninstall and then reinstall Messenger.

2) This is just a possible problem. Some programs use Visual Basic Runtime files. Many used 5.0 and were superceded by 6.0. But, some just aren't happy without the old 5.0 files. Installing the VB5.0 might make it disappear. I'm putting the Microsoft link for you to read it for yourself : Micro$oft Link You won't find any reference to YahooMessenger in it, its just that CoCreateInstance rings a bell in relation to the runtime version of VB. If you install VB5 you will probably have to reboot.

Or you can download via FTP ( haven't tried lately so hope info is up-to-date) :

a) A pop-up dialog box will ask to save the file.
b) Make sure that the "save in" area reads "Desktop".
c) Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window.
d) When the download is finished, close all open programs.
e) Find the file icon on your desktop and double-click it to begin the installation
f) For each new window of the installation, just click on the "Next" button until you get to the end, which says "Installation Completed", and then click on the "Finish" button.

Once the installation is finished, reboot the computer. Yahoo! Messenger should work properly now. If not, please download Messenger again and reinstall it. There is no need to uninstall first. To download and install again, please go to Yahoo Messenger and click on the link that says "Get It Now".

Be sure to save the file to disk, AND save it to the desktop so that it will be easy to find. To save the file to the desktop

1. Click "Yes" when prompted to save the file to disk. A window will appear asking where to save the file.
2. Click the little yellow folder with the up-pointing arrow at the top of this window until it reads 'Desktop' in the white field.
3. Click the Save button.

When the download is complete, exit your browser and all other programs. Locate the downloaded file on your desktop and double-click it. This will launch the installation process and allow you to use the Yahoo Messenger.

During the installation process, you will be asked to enter your Yahoo! ID and password. Just enter the same ID and password that you use for other parts of Yahoo, or if you do not have a Yahoo ID, click the button that says "get a yahoo ID".

I'm sure a lot of the instructions you already know how to do. I use Win ME not XP so I may be totally off on your solution.

Why thanks! I dont have inernet explore on my computer, but i dont use it. We use a much faster internet called mozilla. This is most likly to be the cause. Thanks alot! I will have to sort it out soon.

Hi Sophie:

If you have Win XP, you have Internet Explorer plus Outlook Express. I don't use IE either except for sites which require it. I use Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape and Netscape Browser 8.0 Beta. You might have your browser check and see if you have latest version. Think it is 1.7.6. Firefox's is 1.0.2. I like these because it's easy to check for updates on all the extensions and plug-ins I use.

Downloading using the Download Manager allows you to save to your favorite downloads folder. If you've selected to keep window open after download completes, you can click on the OPEN link and install. I would close all apps you don't need before continuing with install and see if you have same problem with Yahoo IM. You probably know this already so excuse the rambling.

I know how to fix it. To fix this error, just uninstall your current version and then go to http://www.carolisay.../ymsgr_1358.exe
and download this version. It's an older version that will offer you updates after you install it. Go ahead and get the updates. You will get a few errors while installing but keep installing and it will work. I had the CoCreateInstance error and when I did this, it now works when everything else failed! Please spread the word if this works for you. There are people everywhere having trouble with Yahoo Messenger and now we have a fix!!!
