Hi, I'm new to this forum and thought it might be a good place to ask for that..

I want to built my pc but I'm a little noob who know's almost NOTHING about pc.....only that the higher the price is, the better it is (I think).

I was looking on website's but it was comming around 4000$ (cdn) , thought it was a little to much and I didn't know if I had everything or to much. So I'm asking you guys to help me out with this. I'm ready to pay 2500/3000$ (cdn) to have a good gamer pc (shipping included even if I prefer not to ship cuz I'm no in confience with paying over the internet and those things).

PS: I want one of the best graphic cards if possible.....heard that Radeon X800XT platinum edition or Radeon X850XT platinum edition are really good.....but like I said, I know nothing about pc except how to play games....

First of all, higher in price DOES not equal to better gaming PC. When it comes to gaming, it's best to build it yourself.

Recommendations:

Get an Asus Motherboard, the best (Front Side Bus or FSB frequency 800MHZ)
Get an ATI Radeon X800 to hype up all the specs on all games
Get an AMD processor (Best would be a 64 Bit one, make sure the motherboard is compatible with it!!!!!)
Get SATA raid Hard Drives, more than one will be best, one for backup
Get an Antec Case, quiet and Good for Cooing (Don't get anything under $100)
Get DVD +/- Burners, they are cheap these days
Get Vantech Stealth 120mm fans to cool the system down even more!!!! Your Antec case should be able to handle 2 more besides the one that comes with it

The idea here is to build a PC that's cool, so you can game all your want, but quiet at the same time. All these recommendations is based on how much you are willing to spend, $2000-$3000? Let me put it this way, if you buy a PC that's even close to all these high quality parts I recommended, it's going to cost you more than $3000. If you build it yourself, probably $2000, or not even that much.

If you build your own computer, you are going to love it. It seems difficult, but hey, I did it, and I was a noob until 6 months ago:)

One last thing before I foret, get a Full-Tower size ATX Antec case, not a mid-sized one, they are not so great for cooling.

Recommendation:

Antec P160 Anodized Aluminum Case

Seems like they don't have the Full-Tower size any more:( But still check out www.Antec.com or other browser sites I recommended for more full tower ATX cases.

P.S. ATX is a computer tower that stands straight up, like a suit case, other types are the ancient ones that lays down flat below your monitor.

Very nice recommendations alphaethan I agree but would add a thermaltake venus hsf to cool the amd 64, it comes with a fan contoller and maybe a fan controller for the other fans.

Abit makes pretty good boards to.

First of all, Thanx for the compliment Rick.

To answer your question Aimpoint, I personally prefer AMD because it's more sensitive and have shorter reaction time when you send a command. When it comes to reliability and quality, it's analogous to a Volkswagon versus a some cheapo made American vehicles (no offense to anyone). That's right, AMD is German made:) Nevertheless, this does not mean P4's are not reliable!!!

Actually, Pentium 4's runs cooler than AMD processors, but only when they are the same frequency (e.g. such as a 2.4Ghz AMD vs. a 2.4Ghz P4). To get the same reaction rate (how fast it responds) as a 2.4 Ghz AMD, you 'd almost have to get a 3.0 Ghz P4 to match it, which will be running much hotter. This is just from experience, because my best friend's Dad built his, and he spent way more than I did on a P4 3.0 Ghz, but my PC's reaction rate smokes his:) Plus, it's only around $120-$200 at Newegg.com depends on how fast you want it. Of course there are some Windows XP tweaks I can show you to speed up your CPU reaction rate:)

One more thing, AMD's are easier to overclock, you can do it with a pencil, but that's another long topic so I'll cut it short:)

Gee, I talk a lot, lol. Oh, no offense Rick, but I prefer Zalman Heat sink and fan for the CPU (Must be all aluminum). I always forget something, thanx Rick.

Thx and for the windows XP tweaks to make it go faster, could you tell me some or just e-mail them to me at please do not list your email address? I'm gonna do it on that pc if it's not to hard.....and for overclocking, like I said in my first post, I know nothing about computers so I'm not gonna start messing in these things for now...don't want to blow up everything.

Hey guys, i love all the reccommendations you both have made, i would have to add some...
if you really want a good gaming computer atleast a gig of ram, i would recommend buying 1.5-2 of PC4000 ddr and get a motherboard that supports 3 gig, you could by an amd64 although not many programs are out that really take advantage of 64 bit, as you can read from the posts above, you can buy an amd 2500+ and overclock it and get the same feeling as you would get from a 3200-3400+ respectivly, you seem to have chosen a good graphics card, sound card (i would reccomend the sound blaster audigy 2 zs or higher) as they covered above a full atx with proper cooling, you will not want this machine to overheat, if you want, i would suggest buying a good tv- tuner and then buying windows media center OS and enjoying that with a 17-19" lcd?

also look for prices on Tigerdirect- for memory and moniters and others and 3btech- for great deals on processors

Well, this thread seems to attract various style PC builders, and I have no doubt that all are great at what they do. I was going to attach an XP Optimizer file and e-mail it to you, but now it just says don't show e-mail addy here. Oops, I should've send it earlier, but now it's not the time to worry about that, I'm sure you have enough headaches dealing with what's the best for good prices. Personally, I enjoyed that part the most:)

Anyways, when it comes to RAM I personally love Corsair, and please do get the XMS series, it will smoke your game rig to it's highest potential. They come with cooling spreaders to lower their temps, and the white ones looks wicked. They also have DDR2's with very low latency settings, which will make reaction rate fast, oh yeah. Again, make sure it's compatible with your motherboard frequency ranges (e.g. such as DDR 400 Mhz or 533Mhz). 1 Gig, or two 512MB sticks will do an awsome job for any of today's games. I don't think you want to buy 1 Gig sticks, they are darn expensive. So why so much about RAM? Cuz they are perhaps the 3rd most important component of your PC! Keep them cool, and they will keep your PC working lightning fast with other top quality parts.

Oh, Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound, buy some to applyl between the processor and heatsink. This is important, don't turn on your PC without it.
