Please set your system to show all files; see here for how to do this if you're unsure.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tmpf01.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished

Close all programs down, leaving only HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = C:\WINDOWS\blank.htm
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B72F75B8-93F3-429D-B13E-660B206D897A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\snim.dll
O18 - Filter: text/html - {B72F75B8-93F3-429D-B13E-660B206D897A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\snim.dll
O18 - Filter: text/plain - {B72F75B8-93F3-429D-B13E-660B206D897A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\snim.dll

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you don't know how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tmpf01.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\snim.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mszx23.exe
c:\windows\system32\tmpf02.exe
c:\windows\system32\tmpC.tmp

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look.

Hi Kc -

I ended the process on tmpf01.exe and fixed the items in hijack this. I then rebooted into safe mode and deleted tmpf01.exe and snim.dll. It would not let me delete mszx23.exe and I could not find tmpf02.exe or tmpC.tmp. Just as I am typing this I get my virus warning for tmpf02.exe, which i could not find. I have turned on show all files. Below is my new hijack this log.

2. Unzip the contents of KillBox.zip to a convenient location.
3. Double-click on KillBox.exe.
4. Click "Replace on Reboot" and check the "Use Dummy" box.
5. Paste this file into the top "Full Path of File to Delete" box.

7. Click "Yes" at the Replace on Reboot prompt.
8. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Hi Kc - I ran killbox on the two files - rebooted in safe mode, fixed the two items - deleted system32/snim.dll, tried to delete mszx23.exe - ran killbox again and rebooted normal. Below is my new hijack this log. It would not let me delete mszx23.exe, it said it was being used by another person or program. And I just go the Norton High risk warning for tmpf02.exe. Also, when I got home from work my computer screen was completely covered with norton warnings about emails not being able to be sent because my email isn't set up. I don't use outlook for email on my computer, so I think the virus was trying to send out emails. I hate this thing.

Please update HijackThis v 1.99.1

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

Restart into Safe mode and find the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\snim.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mszx23.exe

Right click on the file and choose properties.
Use the security tab on .dll and take ownership.
Change the 'everyone special' to
'you> with Admin rights-> FULL control
Then try to delete it, if that fails try to rename
it first to different name+ext.
Example:
snim.dll>bleh.txt
bleh.txt > badfile.111

Once you have successfully deleted the file restart into Regular Windows mode.
