Some programs have built in options to set whether or not they load at startup. You might try that first. right click on the icon in the system tray and see what options are available - might be under preferances or options or something like that or for some you might have to open the program and look around for the option (not sure about that).
Another way is thru misconfig. Got to start - select run - type msconfig and press OK> click on the Startup tab and unselect the items you don't want to start - click OK, it will tell you you need to restart for the options to take effect.
