I'm hoping someone can help me... I'm a complete ignoramous with computers and something is going very, very wrong with mine! I don't know if it's a virus or if something is just running really wrong.
It's basically just running so slowly - it freezes and the mouse won't move and then it unfreezes again: this is constant. Typing is the same - I can be typing and then it just stops putting the letters on the screen and if I keep typing, it doesn't catch up on the words I've input. The clock is now at least 2hrs slow. Everything takes so long to do - opening up a web page is a nightmare, but even saved documents are slow.
How do I know if it's a virus? And if so, how do I fix it???

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. <_<

Hi Nathan

I couldn't open the Hijack this tool --- I saved it to its own folder, as you instructed, but when I tried to open it, it did the Open As box and gave me a whole list of programmes to choose from.

I spoke with a friend who knows computers and he told me to run FxNetsky.exe, which I got from http://securityrespo...er/FxNetsky.exe --- that seems to have fixed it. My aunty's computer had the same problem and this worked on hers.... do you know what this fix is? I'm assuming it's some kind of virus control(?).

Thanks!

Yeah, it's a virus. Netsky to be exact. Do you have anti-virus software? If you do, be sure to keep it up-to-date. If you don't we strongly recommend AVG Free Edition.

Hey, I use it and it's great <_<! You might have to do this to get the updates working:

Also, be sure to get the latest critical security updates from windowsupdate.com.
