:tazz: Please help me. I need to access my pics ASAP but "my pictures" folder crashes when it is accessed. Then I get an explorer.exe application error "The instruction at " " referenced memory at "". The memory could not be written. Ok to terminate Cancel to Debug" Thanks!

this was MY Christmas vacation error as well. Got it fixed with Microsoft's help.

Here is a snip from Jane Yan Customer Care at Microsoft. She tracked it to the Data Execution Protection.

1. The corrupted display card driver.
2. The DEP function.
3. The program conflict.

I suggest we first roll back the display card driver and check our issue again:

1. Click "Start", go to "Run", type in "devmgmt.msc" and press "Enter".
2. Double click to expand "Display Adapters".
3. Right click your display card and click "Properties".
4. Click the "Driver" tab and click "Roll Back Driver".

Then please check our issue again. If not work, I suggest we disable the DEP function and check our issue again:

This issue can be caused by the Data Execute Protection (DEP) function in Service Pack 2. To resolve the issue, please follow the steps below:

For Windows XP Professional
---------------------------
1. Please click "Start" menu => click "Run" => type "cmd" <without quotation marks> and click "OK".
2. Type or copy the following commands into the prompt window:
Note: Please do not press Enter key until you see the (Press Enter Key) prompt.

Bootcfg /raw "/noexecute=alwaysoff /fastdetect" /id 1 (Press Enter Key)
Shutdown -r -f -t 0 (Press Enter Key)

some suggestion :

1.Check and see if your harddrive is ok
2. Try to ask someone else with Admin rights to logon to the machine and access the folder. It this works, it should be your windows profile issue. :tazz: hope this helps!

I tried these things but still have the problem. Dell says it isn't a hardware issue that it is a probably spyware issue and they can fix it for $275! :tazz: I am hoping someone here can help me instead.

reboot into safemode

While starting your computer tap the F8 key once every second during the memory count up, or during the system spash screen where you see the system maker's name (HP, COMPAQ, DELL....etc.)

This will result in a text based menu. Use the curors/arrorw keys to navigate to SAFE MODE and hit enter.

Does the problem recur in safe mode?

The other admin acct can access the picture folders so, how do I change or fix my account.

Problem Solved,

A downloaded picture had a corrupted Thumbnail program.

I deleted the pic, and the thumbnail went with it.

Does anyone know the fix for this thumbnail weakness?
