If someone could assist me, I would really appreciate it. It all started a few days ago. I noticed that, while using internet explorer to access the internet, my homepage had been changed to some security spy ware site which offered several products to remove spyware from my computer. I then began to get numerous pop-ups designed to look like legitimate windows error and warning messages that my computer had been infected with spyware. Then, whether on line or off, I began to get pop-ups for [bleep] sites, gambling sites, popeentertainment (i think) sites, etc.

I asked a salesman at the local CompUSA what was going on and he said that I basically was hijacked by a hacker through using microsoft internet explorer. He suggested that I not use that program to access the web and suggested Mozilla/firefox instead. He also sold me three programs he said would fix my issues. Zone Alarm Pro, Norton Antivirus, and Webroot Spysweeper. I went ahead and purchased all three but planned on checking around for pricing comparisons before opening/installing them.

My neighbor who is more computer savvy than me (not very hard) said that he wholeheartedly endorsed Zone Alarm Pro and agreed that I should use Mozilla for my browser from now on. He did not think I needed Norton or SpySweeper.

I tried to do some surfing today to see if anyone else was having these types of problems and I found several sites including this one. I read some of the posts and tried some of the fixes (such as downloading Hijack this, Homesearchfix.zip, CWShredder, SPSEHJfix, CleanUp!, AboutBuster, and a few more. I found a thread of someone I thought had a similar problem to mine and followed all of the instructions given him, but my problem persists. I tried downloading zonealarm pro but my computer gives me an error message that it is "unable to log into TrueVector service" and won't install it. I have a cable modem and can tell that my internet is getting slower and slower by the day. Pop-ups continue, homepage still hijacked. HELP PLEASE!!! :tazz: :) :) From reading some of the threads here, I know that it is helpful for you to see a "hijack this" list of items found so I will try and include it below. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
