Previously i have been using Windows 95 and running microsoft works 3.0. However recently changed computers to a slightly better one to windows 98. Tried installing works 3.0 and the discs keep coming up with share.exe cannot be found, thus not continuing the installation. Havev googled this and tried various fixes using notepad and it still will not work. Can you help?

opens NotePad program, then save the blank document
with the name share.exe.

Save it to C:\Windows

If that doesn't work save it to C:\Windows\Command

you should be able to install it now.

According to Microsoft, you're supposed to save the dummy share.exe file in the root (C:\) under Win95 OSR2 and 98 and in the Windows System folder under ME.

Works 3 doesn't actually use Share.exe under Windows 95 or later but because Works 3 came out in 1993 at a time when share.exe was actually needed (it basically just allowed files to be shared), then it thinks it needs it because it doesn't know any better.
