Hi! I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, but I know almost nothing about computers and I seem to be having trouble with my Belkin Router..I'm not sure which model


I was having problems connecting to a game server earlier, so I backed up my router config settings, and reset it to default. After the router had restarted, I noticed I had somehow lost my connection. After restarting several times, I plugged my modem directly into my computer and thats how I'm here now.


When I turn on the router, the green connection light is blinking instead of staying steady.


Could somebody please help me? Anything at all would be appriciated.

connect your router to the modem and then your PC to the router. Go to control panal and then network connections. Right click on Local Area Connection and check the box display icon when connected. If already checked go to the bottom right of the screen and find the picture with the 2 monitors. Does it have a yellow mark next to it? Open Internet Explorer and type in 192.168.2.1 like you would put in a website. If that doesn't get you to the router config screen try 192.168.1.1 When you get to the router config screen. Press the Prt Scrn button on your keyboard. Neer scroll lock key. Open paint from start programs accesories. Then in paint edit paste. Save this picture and upload it so i can see your settings.

Hit then run and in the box type (ipconfig /all) If that doesn't work try using the other slash. Have that up on the screen. then double click the 2 monitors on the bottem right. next right click on the my computer icon and go to properties. from there go to hardware and then device manager. Take a screen shot that includes the ipconfig the screen from the 2 monitors and device manager. If you have another network cable try using that to connect the modem to the router.

You can get internet when directly connected to the modem Correct. If this is true then there maybe a problem with the router because that has no connection. I saw on the screenshot that it wasn't connected to the internet. Are you connected to the right port on the router. Don't plug into one of the 4 ports. There should be a seperate port for input next to the other ports.

No, I do use the right ports.


Actually, now that I think about it, last night I did the thing to restore the settings to default because I was having problems with a game program, and after I reset the settings to factory default, I lost my connect. Earlier today I used the backup of the settings to restore it, but I still can't get a connection for some reason. Should I connect my isp for info to put into the router or what?

Hi Mattowander -- please don't bump your own posts -- thanks

From your ipconfig /all, I can see that your computer isn't configured properly to be on a network. Have you run the Windows Network Setup Wizard? If not, please do the following -- NOTE: these steps may vary depending on your Operating System.
Run the Network Setup Wizard:

• Goto Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Communications --> Network Setup Wizard.
• The first thing to do when the wizard appears is read the welcome message, and then click Next.
• Read the 'Before you continue....' message, and then click Next.
• Select the option This computer connects to the Internet through a residential gateway or another computer on my network, and then press Next.
• Now, type in a Description for your computer; ie: Jimmy's Computer.
• Enter a Computer Name (or leave it as it's Default), and then press Next.
• Enter a Workgroup Name -- or leave it as it's default, and then press Next.
• If you want to share files and/or your printer with other computers on the network, select the option Turn on file and printer sharing and press Next.
• Check the information; if it is all fine, press Next.
• Now, if possible, you should Create a Network Setup Disk -- once you have created a Network Setup Disk, insert it into any other computer on your network, and run it; follow all prompts.

Once done, please do another ipconfig /all and post the details.

Now, try to connect to the Internet -- can you?

Please also do the following:
Ping your DNS Server
Ping your Default Gateway
Ping your router's IP Address
Ping google.com
Ping 72.14.207.99
Ping localhost
Ping 127.0.0.1
With these results, just tell me if you successfully pinged them all -- ie: 4 packets sent, 4 recieved.

Please goto Start, Run, type CMD and press 'OK' - now type: netstat -rn and press enter; please post the results here.

Test your Network
1. Goto Start, Run, type: NETSH DIAG GUI - press 'OK'. A Command Prompt window will open temporarily; don't touch it, it will disappear in a moment.
2. A Microsoft Help and Support window will then open; select the option 'Scan your system'.
3. Wait for the scan to finish and then scroll down to the heading 'Modems and Network Adapters'. Look at 'Network Adapters' (don't expand it yet). Beside your connection information, you should see a green 'PASSED'; if you do not (if you see a red 'FAILED') then expand 'Network Adapters', scroll down the list until you see the heading with the 'FAILED', expand that option and copy and paste the results here.
In the NETSH DIAG GUI, you should be looking for any red 'FAILED', however the key one is Network Adapters for you. If you see any other red FAILED, expand the component and copy the results.

If you have Windows XP:
Install Netdiag
To use Netdiag the Support Tools must be installed
Use a retail XP CD and follow the following steps to install the Support Tools
A) Insert the CD and browse to the Support\Tools folder
B) Double-click on the setup file
C) Go through the prompts until you get to the "Select An Installation Type" screen
D) Select Complete and click Next

Once setup completes or if the Support Tools are already installed:
A) Open a command prompt (Start, Run, type CMD and press 'OK').
B) Type netdiag /test:winsock and press Enter

It will return the test results for several network components including the Winsock; please post the results in your next reply.

i don't see how this helps. How can you tell he is not configured. He has to be configured because he gets internet directly from the modem. When connected to the router he can access the router. So his PC is fine. It is the router that doesn't detect the internet connection. Mattowander in the screen shot with the router screen was the modem connected to the router when you took that shot. If not upload another pic with the router screen and the modem connected to the router. Do you have more then one PC. If you have more then one then can those get internet. If you only have one then you don't need the router. If possible try a new router.

Yes my modem was plugged into the router at the time I took the screen shot, and I have two PCs, neither of which can get internet when the router is plugged in.


I'll try the above steps on my other computer because today i couldn't get internet on it even with the modem plugged directly into it.

I'll go finish the above steps and reply back here when I'm finished.

Ok. I was unable to do the network setup wizard on my other computer due to an error. I did everything else you said to do, which I will post below. When pinging what you told me to ping, I got 4 sent and 4 received on everything except google.com, and I think my DNS servers. I hope this is everything you asked for!

Goto Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Communications --> Network Connections. Right click on your connection, and select Properties. Click on Internet Protocl (TCP/IP) once, then press the Properties button. Select the option Use the following IP Address: and enter the following details:

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.2.12
Press OK -- restart your computer, and then try to connect to the Internet. Please post a fresh ipconfig /all once you have done this.
