Okay, well I have no clue how this happened, but somehow my computer got 14 trojans, 155 cases of spyware, and more. Now my computer is running SO slow and freezes at every mouse-click!

Anyway, I ran Ewido Anti-Malware, that showed me a couple cases of spyware... I deleted them... still nothing. Then I ran Spybot Search and Destory, it found 155 cases of spyware, I deleted them, yet still nothing. I ran Kaspersky Anti-Virus and found 14 trojans, deleted them, still no help. I also attempted to run Ad-Aware SE Personal and Norton AntiVirus. However, both froze my computer when opened. Also, I tried downloading WinPatrol... but half-way through the download, it stopped loading and disappeared.

Here is a HijackThis log...

I hope I gave you enough information :\. It's pretty hard to describe when I can't find out what's wrong with it.

Also, when I tried playing The Sims 2, my comp. stopped and said a driver had stopped working, and my resolution and color depth went to the lowest possible amount and my computer stopped.

And whenever I reboot my computer, I get a error message saying, "A duplicate name exists on this network" or something... I forget the exact message.

My computer isn't even a year old, so I know that it shouldn't be doing this from old age. It also has 480 MB, I dunno if that is a lot or not though.

Hmm, I think that's all. But yea, it's very annoying considering that it takes about three minutes for me just to log into my account on Windows. Thanks for the help :tazz: !

No idea what happened, here is the post that messed things up. It may help if you dont quote everything.

===================

Okay, I used Jotti's malware scan and for both files it said, "This program is using 0 bytes. It could be a firewall or sometype of malware...". I don't have any firewalls (to my knowledge), so I believe that it's malware...

I'm having a problem with the Kaspersky WebScanner. It only works with MS Internet Explorer, however, everytime I open IE (I normally use Mozilla), it closes automatically... so I can't scan with that.

Here's the Uninstall Log

You have a CoolWebSearch infection.

Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about. Reboot your computer into normal windows.

-----------------------2

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.gee.../aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

-----------------------3

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

Please download ewido anti-malware it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido anti-malware
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido anti-malware.

-----------------------4

When the tool is finished, post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder and the Ewido Log.

Okay, I'm having problems again. Whenever I run Ewido it freezes at 40.8%. I let it run for almost 2 days and it didn't change. It did find 122 infected objects before it froze though.

Also, CWShredder didn't find anything.

Here's my log from Aproposfix...

Ugh, the Spy Sweeper keeps saying that there was an error with installation. Also, I tried clicking "Sweep" but it doesn't do anything.

Also, do you know how to get rid of the Norton Protected Recycle Bin? it's really getting annoying, and there's a file in it that's keeping my Ewido from fully scanning, but I don't know how to delete it.

Thanks ^_^.

2) Select the Global tab.
3) Select the "Use One Settings for All Drives" radio button.
4) Select the Recycle Bin tab.
5) Select the "Standard Recycle Bin" radio button.
6) Change the text in the Title box to "Recycle Bin."
7) Uncheck "Show Norton Protection Status" if possible.
8) Select the Norton Protection tab.
9) Select a drive and uncheck Enable Protection. Repeat for each drive.
10) Select the "Also Empty Protected Files" option.
11) Click OK twice.
12) Reboot the computer.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

PandaScan won't work for me (sorry, it seems like nothing is working :tazz:). It requires Internet Explorer, and everytime I open IE it just closes down on my 2 seconds later after it stops freezing.

On the good side, I think I got Ewido to work. I got rid of the program that was freezing it so maybe it will finally finish this time.

Also, I checked to see how much space I have on my computer. It says "1.30 Ghz, 480 MB". Does the 1.30 GHz count to my space? Or do I only have 480 MB? Isn't that a pretty small amount considering I have a brand new laptop?

EDIT: I finally got Ewido to work. It found 80 infected objects and deleted all 80... but my laptop is still slow.

Also... I just realized that my cookies aren't deleting.

Here's the Ewido log...

Okay, I ran the scan for the IE. However, IE still won't stay open. Whenever I open it, it closes and shuts down. I also tried the second method, but whenever I try to search something, the buttons don't work. I'll click "Scan Files and Folders" and nothing happens... same with everything else.

However, my computer seems to be running a bit faster. AIM still shuts down on me, but Mozilla doesn't freeze like it used to.

Sorry that it took so long to reply, I've been pretty busy.

We are going to run System File Checker, to make sure all of your protected files are not corrupt. The scan will automatically replace any corrupt files that it finds.

Click Start
Select Run
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the program, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Sometimes the scan will prompt you for your Windows XP disc upon starting the scan. if this happens please make sure that you can view protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files.
Then rerun the scan. If this still asks you to put in your windows XP CD, and you do not have the CD (If you bought it preinstalled) post back for more tips, otherwise enter Windows CD.

Once the scan is complete:

Check your Windows Updates! After using the File Protection Service, you might need to reapply some updates.

Please reboot, and let me know if anything has changed.

Also, please rehide the protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Check" Hide protected operating system files.
Now try to run Panda and tell me the results..
