Hi

I am trying to remove Zone Alarm (security suite) from the registry, however for some reason I am unable to. I notice that I have an entry in the registry left over from when I tried CA antivrus, and subsequently uninstalled, I understand that Zone Alarm Security Suite also uses.CA antivirus in it's Security Suite.

My question. Is it safe to delete the CA entry in the registry. Presumably the thing to would be to export the registry item to My Doc's, then if things don't go I presume when in reg edit users etc I would import from My Doc's.

Hope this all makes some sense.

Many thanks

If you removed Zone Alarm from Add/Remove you needn't worry about leftover registry entries with XP. What software did you replace it with?

Hi Johanna

I am currently running Windows Firewall together with D500 router, but thought I might increase security by reinstalling Zone Alarm Security Suite, which I had previously uninstalled.

However the uninstall left behind entries under User Key and when I tried to delete I got an error message "Unable to Delete Key" I have tried different ways including Safe ModeI thought maybe there was a tieup with the CA entry. Just an uneducated guess.

I am contemplating reinstalling ZASS to give better security. For some reason on my computer to remove ZASS I have to do it manually as the ZA uninstaller doesnt do it. It just hangs

Thanks for your help

I would use a third party firewall, even though you have the XP firewall enabledand a router. Since you already have Zone Alarm, you could reinstall it. Don't worry about any leftovers from previous installs. The ZASS program will overwrite any duplicate files and ignore any irrelevant ones. It is not uncommon to get those kinds of errors during manual removals of firewalls and AV software. They create "safe" files that malicious software can't disable, or be easily deleted. Obsolete files will be ignored by ZASS and Windows, so it really doesn't matter whether they remain because being there will not affect system performance. HTH
