ive done everything from run adware to disabling system restore and going into safemode and full system scans. im just lost and frustrated. i could really use some help. plz help me. here is my hijackthis log. on msconfig there r 3 things disabled: psalert, mm_tray, and msnmngr. all my hidden files are being viewed. i dont know where to go from here. yes im haveing the same problems....basically its making aim runs very slow. nothing major but because of that i can tell its still on there. weird thing is mcafee detects it everytime i turn my computer on and says it has cleaned it. after i ran jayloden.com fix that stopped but the symptons will still there. any ideas?????

Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to open the task manager
Select the processes tab
select aolmsngr.exe by left clicking on it
hit the end process button at the bottom of the task manager
say Yes to the warning
This should turn it off.

The bugger hides in c:\windows\system32\aolmsngr.exe.
You should be able to delete it from there.

You'll also want to remove aolmsngr.exe from following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

You should also do a search for hilarious.scr and delete it whenever you find it.

when i go to the process tab, aolmsng.exe is not there... and i have 2 questions. 1.) how do i delete the bugger from that folder, and 2.) can u give me brief instructions on how to remove aolmsngr.exe from the 2 registry keys u gave me? i did the search for that file a few times already and found nothing...

hit start,
then choose run
in the box that pops up type RegEdit

after it loads, click on Edit and then click on find.
type in aolmsngr.exe and hit enter.

After you remove the first instance hit F3 and remove the second instance.

You might also want to turn off your system restore, as viruses do have a tendancy to hide in restore points.

This can be done by following the Instructions for Your OS at http://www.vet.com.a...em_resoter.htm.

my sytem restore was already set to off which i did yesterday. i did the registry search and it didnt find anything. it just said finished search through the registry and nothing popped up. can i just do a system restore to a few days ago to get rid of this virus??

if your system restore is already set to off like you said, there won't be a restore point for you to go back to.

When you turn system restore off it erases all the restore points.

next thing you could try is uninstalling AIM and then reboot your computer and re-install it

well i uninstalled aim and rebooted and the installed it. it still takes about 30 seconds-1 minute to sign in to aim. something is still not right.
