Hi there,

I'm having some problems with Surfsidekick - though I'm fairly certain that that isn't the only problem. I've run Spybot, Adware, and TrendMicro's online scan, performed the windows security updates, and I'm still having big problems. DOS windows open on startup with these programs running: z13, z14, z15... and I'm always assaulted with pop-ups when on the internet. Anyway, I'm sure my HiJackThis log will be more informative than I could ever be. Thank you so much for your help!

best,
Gava

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Crustyoldbloke,

I followed the link you posted, installed the update, but on reboot my computer won't start. The windows XP progress bar appears, the screen goes blue, and the process starts all over again. If I leave the computer alone this will go on and on indefinitely.

I tried to boot in Safe mode, and just about every other mode on that start up screen. Nothing works. When I boot in safe mode, a message flashes across the screen in an instant that says something like "the logon process terminated unexpectedly". I had to reboot multiple times to even get an inkling as to what it says.

Help!
