UNplugged laptop while reinstalling XP

OK now my laptop wont start. The start button wont do anything. I get power to it the green light goes on but no action when you hit the power switch. I goofed when I switched the power of while reinstalling XP for a repair. its an old Compac preserio just used it for pics

remove the battery and power cord, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.

Reinsert the battery, reattach the power cord, reboot.
