When I start up the computer sometime I get various program errors for example this one I got today:

BTIYRZxWt.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.

Admin suggested I follow the before you post a hijack this log so I have followed the must read suggestions that were posted by ditto on Aug 10, 2004.

The errors still continue.

Also, on shut down sometimes there are programs that don't shut down right away and I'm left with the option to end now or wait for them to shut down.

so, here is my hijack this log.

Hello and welcome to GTG!

It has been awhile since you started this thread. Lets do some updating before we get started.
  • Please download the latest version of HiJackThis from either Site 1 or Site 2
  • Copy it into its own folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Do a system scan and save a logfile"
  • When the scan is finished, it will ask you to save the log. Just save it anywhere that you will remember like your desktop.
  • After you save it, the log will open in notepad. In notepad, press Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents in a reply to this post.
  • Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential
  • Don't Fix Anything Yet
Good Luck

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

This will likely be a few step process in removing the malware that has infected your system. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Please download and run This Program to help us rid your computer of the peper trojan.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINNT\about.htm
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINNT\system32\Userinit.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8DA5457F-A8AA-4CCF-A842-70E6FD274094} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsT.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoW7FD.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\RoW7FD.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BTIYRZxWt.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\BTIYRZxWt.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BriLy1cm8.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\BriLy1cm8.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [49c.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\49c.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [G9gbqFO3W.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\G9gbqFO3W.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [u51W.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\u51W.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lH.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\lH.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [4viD4cXu.exe] C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\4viD4cXu.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p4mW37j] sdpvent.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Y356RXH7R] quechat.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

WinTools

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

* quechat.exe << This file
* sdpvent.exe << This file

C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\4viD4cXu.exe << This file
C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\lH.exe << This file

C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\RoW7FD.exe << This file

* Likely in C:\Windows\System32 or you can Locate via Start > Search

After that, Reboot.

After you reboot, please post back a fresh HJT log.

Great job! Your log is now clean.

Just in case I would like to get you to run some online scans to be sure.

Please run an on-line virus scan at TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

Also, Spyware Doctor is not a rogue program, but it is also not one of the recommended programs for spyware removal. I suggest its removal from the Add/Remove Programs list in the Control Panel.

After that, you should be good to go!!!

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

at house call the results were:

TROJ LOADER.C and TROJ LOADER.D in

C:\WINNT\System32\Iprptsvc.exe and
C:\WINNT\System32\msfuname.exe

respectively. I'm just running the other scan right now.

Quick question,

How do I protect my computer from a server that is known to have infections but that I MUST connect to. I have no choice. (wish that I did because that's what started this mess with my computer)

thanks

The tools that I already recommended should help significantly to decrease your chances of another malware infection. A firewall would be a great asset to you to keep you out of trouble. Last but not least, a good antivirus program is essential.

You are using etrust now, is that the free version, or a paid version?

BitDefender had a longer list, but I couldn't figure out how to copy it so that I could let you know what it said.

Again, Thanks for all you've done with helping me.

Thats a good looking log. How are things running?

If you have no more symptoms, I am going to say that you are clean.

Have you had a chance to look at and/or download the tools and utilities that I suggested?
