Im trying to host my own PHBB2 forum in my computer. I have a domain which meets with the requirements.

This is what I have at the moment:

- MySqul 4x
- Trying to get a DSN setup
- WS-FTP


I just dont know how to set everything up with mysqul and a DSN for it to recongnize it in my phbb2 installation screen as shown below:




Help would be greatly appreciated

Aah, that's better, a screenshot is always helpful. For the DNS, try typing in "localhost", or simply your domain.

Now for the rest, this is where you must get your hands dirty. So firstly:
1. Start MySQL server (a small traffic lights icon will show up in the task bar)
2. start mysql console (C:\mysql\bin\mysql.exe)
3. add a user: http://dev.mysql.com...ding-users.html
4. Remember the username and password. You will use these next time you administer mysql
5. Create a database. Issue this command in mysql

CREATE DATABASE phpbb_db

Of course you can name the database any name you want
6. Enter all details in the phpbb form

Voila, and that's (hopefully) all . Submit any further problems.

I finally got to it. It was so simple and yet, I was so lost

The way I got it to work was this:

1. Uploaded all files in the domain = /www/web/forum
2. Went in MySqlAdmin and created a database ex: goldfish
3. changed config.php to -rw-rw-rw-
4. put the link for the installation in browser ( http://YOURSITE/foru...all/install.php
5. Input the following field in the phbb installation screen:
- database type: ( whatever your domain has )
- Database Server Hostname : localhost
- Database name : goldfish
- Database username : Your username when you go in MySqulAdmin
- Database password: Your password when you go in MySqulAmdmin
- Prefix for database : *no need to touch*
- Your email: whatever you have
- Domain name: ex: blabla.chesh.net
- Server Port: leave at 80
- Script Path : * Do not touch*
- Administrator username: To get access to your forum admin panel
- Administrator password: To get access to your forum admin panel

and thats it

* Note: to get extra themes. Just in case you have trouble: upload the folder in the /templates folder in your hosting account, then go in admin control panel in your forum, go to styles, Add. Then you will see your Theme. Install. Once installed, you can change the theme in your profile. Default is subSilver, and there will be your theme you installed.

Whew, I never thought that it would be like that. My mistake, ignore my previous post(s). I once set up drupal (similar community webpage manager as phpbb) and it was [bleep] difficult especially when I didn't have my own hosting .
