I seem to be having a problem with my computer, and a part of the problem is I'm not that computer smart. But.. here is some things I should tell you;

I have a fairly new Dell computer with windows XP home

I have a 120 gig hard drive, and another 160gig
the 160gig runs windows, the other 120 is for storage.

My problem is. When running programs and opening folders and basically using my computer. It lags, badly, winamp and any other program I use to play music, makes the music skip and is choppy until whatever the computer is doing is finished, My mouse pointer lags and skips and jumps around the screen...

I don't know why this is happening or how to fix it.
Somone please help me out?

Thanks in advance!

I sympathize with you there. More information is needed about your system first. While you do that, download AD-AWARE by http://www.lavasoft.com and AVG (free edition) from http://www.grisoft.com.
Run both programs. I know it may take a while, but unless you have eliminated the possibility of infection, we won't know how to proceed.
(TIP) After download, installation and updates, disconnect from the internet and run them.

Deal with whatever problems they find (if any) and reboot (still not connected to the internet).

See if your system responds better.

If it is not better, try cleaning up your registry. Go to www.tucows.com or www.winfiles.com and search for a FREE registry cleaner in the utility section. Run it and see if your system improves.

Follow the instructions in the order that I have suggested them. This will get you on the path to recovery as I have had to deal with this problem myself.

Good luck

My computer specs are a 2.6ghz proccessor, 512mbs of ram, Its a fairly new Dell computer I got last May, I think the problem lies with the two decent sized drives I have, a 160 with windows on it and another that I use for storage. I bought new 80pin cables for it all but that still didn't fix my problem, I've scanned my computer several times with all sorts of different programs, Found nothing
So I assume it has something to do with my two big hard drives..
Still don't know how to fix it without buying a new computer or a single huge drive to store everything on that runs windows..
If any suggestions please let me know

Thanks in advance

begin by visiting the Dell support site and downloading the most recent drivers for all your hardware.

incidentally, what Dell is this?

I ran into a similar problem with one model...The problem is two-fold.

First, the thing had 256mb of memory. Second, it had integrated video that shared that memory. Third, it had all the bells and whistles turned on.

WindowsXP is fairly intense when it comes to system requirements and Dell shipped a bunch of machines that were simply not up to the task

You can try to post a Hijack This log and see if there are any malware issues.

Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and post your log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
