Last night I think I was conversing with Samm of G.B. about a modem driver. Here is another hang-up in my attempt to convert a Win98 machine to Win2000 for a friend who has no money.

It has an ASUS CUV4X motherboard with onboard sound. I went to their website and there were several audio drivers. It wasn't clear which one was THE one. I downloaded them all and installed them all until I got the sound to work. Now mp3 files play too fast. Paul Simon sounds like a chipmonk. That's odd.

What's up? Should I uninstall all of them and start over again? What a pain.

Thx.

Thanks! But how do I know which device handles the playing of CD's and mp3's? There are audio codecs, legacy codecs, media control devices, and Winyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM).

See what I mean?

Thanks!

Do you have a favorite download site where I can find VT82C686a/b? There's a lot of running around looking for the right thing.

Thanks again.
