hi these problems started yesterday for the first time ever and has happened a few more times since then

these bsod's appear out of nowhere, for instance yesterday i was browsing the net and it happend, the 2nd time it happened i cant remember, and the last time (about an hour ago) it happened while i was playing a game ive had on my system for about a year.

the only programs iv installed since this started happening is messenger plus and a couple of games like trackmania sunrise and a couple atari demos

ive unistalled messenger plus recently, but i have a feeling this wont fix the problem.

ive had the pc for about a year so its pretty new too.

my system specs are

win xp
amd sempron 2800
maxtor 120gb hdd
768mb ddr ram
geforce 6200

i hope someone can help as this is starting to worry and also starting to annoy me now

thanks in advance :) :tazz: :)

need to know more info than that. First off, when if the screen goes away too fast for you to read it, right click on my computer, go to the advanced tab, click on settings in the startup and recovery box, and then untick the 'automatically start' radio button. Then, the next time it happens, we need to have the hexadecimal (that's the stuff that looks like 0x00000D1, or whatever, PLUS the file name that follows that, such as http.sys, or something similar. Most likely (but not always) it will be a .sys file.

That info will help us narrow down the cause and therefore, the solution.

I had a very similar problem to this.

It was caused by the AC 97 audio codec from the onboard sound chip.

I disabled the chip and installed a Sound Blasted Audigy card and never had a problem since.

The AC 97 really doesn't get along with nVidia gfx cards.

under the stop error,
stop: 0x000000D1 (0x6a006a01,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x6a006a01), there should be a .sys file. That will be the driver that is causing you grief. As you recently installed winfax, I would not be surprised to see that it is somehow norton related, as I have had issues with that app and that error in the past. Let us know what the name of the .sys file is.

there is no sys file or or other kind of file listed.

all it is is the error message in caps and the weird jumble of numbers and letters...

well, it's odd that it doesn't point to what is causing the problem. Here is what MS has to say:

http://support.micro...kb;en-us;317326

I doubt that that will apply to you, however. Have you checked the event viewer logs? Those can be found by going to start > run > eventvwr.msc. Look under both apps and system, and report back what has the exclamtion points, including hte event id's, next to them. To access the event id's, simply double click on the event in question.
