I have recently been attempting to load xp pro on a p2 desktop without success. It formerly had Windows98 and ran very slowly. Yhe user had numerous viruses and I decided to reload WIndows 98. (I reformted the drive and fdisk. Windows 98 loaded successfully and everthing worked fine.
However, I decided to load xp pro instead and reformated and fdisked the drive again. The entire installation ran for nearly an hour and a half and then stopped when saving to disk drive at end. I had to power off and power on in order to unlock the pc.
It then informed me that xp pro was not loaded successfully and would have to be reinstalled. After 3 attempts, I have finally given up. I have also tried to run the xp pro upgrade cd as well and get the same problem. I almost tempted to reload Windows98 and forget about XP Pro for this device.
