Hi,

I hope you can help me please. Recently my PC has been running very slow and acting very strange. I've noticed lots of files on the PC which I have no idea how they got there such as windowsadstatus. One keeps trying to open but it an error comes up and everytime I click off it AVG says I've got a virus. Sometimes a thing called search assistant 180 comes up and I've no idea where that's come from.

The PC running slow and crashing a lot seems to coincide with these mysterious files please could you let me know how I can get rid of them- I've tried to delete them buit they don't let me

Thank you.

Hi,

Please download, install, update and run,

Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.snapfiles...get/spybot.html

Then, run the following scan:

http://housecall.antivirus.com/

After that, download and run,

HijackThis 1.99.1 (Direct Download)
run it, hit scan now, hit save log, then copy the logfile here myself or someone who knows how to analyze HJT logs.

Good luck! :tazz:

Hi,

First off, you don't have HJT in a Permanent folder.
Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.
This will allow backups to be made and saved By hijackthis in case something goes wrong
Follow this link http://www.netstar.me.uk/hjt/hjt.html if you need help.

Next, open HijackThis hit "Scan Now' then have it fix the following entries. Make sure you close all windows except HijackThis.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdControl] C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ap9h4qmo] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ap9h4qmo.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdStatus] C:\Program Files\Windows AdStatus\WinStat.exe

.....

O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} -

.....

Next, unhide hidden files and folders.

How to unhide hidden files and folders

Then boot into Safe Mode.

How to boot into Safe Mode

Once in Safe Mode delete the following files and folders in red.

C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe <-- delete the folder which will remove everything inside of it.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ap9h4qmo.exe <-- delete the file.
C:\Program Files\Windows AdStatus\WinStat.exe <-- delete the folder which will remove everything inside of it.

Then reboot into normal mode and run this online scan.

http://housecall.antivirus.com/

After that scan is finished, post a brand new HijackThis log.

I also, noticed you are running to Anti-Viruses. Kaspersky and AVG. It is recommened that you only run one. This is because if you run two, it is possible they will conflict with each other. So I recommened that you uninstall one. Both AV's are good so it really doesn't matter. Whichever you like better.

Good luck!! :tazz:
