Hello Brendon!

Unfortunately you can't upgrade the graphics card on a laptop.

What are the specs of your laptop?
What games are you running?
Have you tried lowering the resolution and detail settings?

You have a fairly good laptop and you've already got 512MB RAM so adding more isn't really going to help that much. The biggest problem is that graphics card. With that graphics card your not going to be able to run anything like Quake 4 or Call of Duty 2.
The only thing I can recommend is that when your thinking of buying a new game go to the developer website and check the supported graphics cards. Make sure your model is on the list before you buy and when you buy lower the display settings in the game.
