i have 4 total available memory banks. two of them currently hold 256mb each. if i wanted to add 512mb each to the remaining two banks should i take the two 256mb's out? someone told me that the system would run better with just two 512's installed instead of the 512+512+256+256

anyone able to give me a quick memory config lesson? what is best?

You can run with all of them in if you want but you won't be able to run in dual channel mode (if the motherboard supports it).
