a psu of the same style and power rating as the one you currently have
a different hard drive
a single stick of known good ram of the same type as the ram you currently have..

Trial 5 - 1st stick, resetting CMOS - Power on, no boot, no beeps, CPU/HDD spin, no visual

Trial 6 - 2nd and 3rd sticks together - Power on, one short beep (good power on self test), hangs at MoBo screen after Pentium Processor Hyper Threading Enabled. Just freezes there.

lol just what I was horribly horribly afraid of but knew all along...

I don't have another PSU,
I have 2 hard drives in my current computer, windows is only on one of them, does that count as a different one?
known good ram? Not unless I buy it will I know its good I guess, so no. =(

Could it be the PSU just messing everything up or could this be a virus or just a messed up mobo?

I am trying the steps on the Soyo website to try to isolate the problem, they seem to get this problem about the computer just being on without boot and no beeps so we'll see if this works.

Ok, so after doing all of that I got the computer to at least POST, but now it seems like everytime it gets to the Windows loading screen it just quits working. After about 30 seconds loading the screen just goes black, no beeps, no restart sound, jsut black screen and it sounds like the HDD are still spinning. Then when I turn it off to restart, it won't even POST, powers on, fans spin, no visual data, no beeps. Makes me think it could be a memory problem, as the only problems occur during RAM intensive times, loading, start up, etc. Is this possible? Should I buy more RAM and try it? Or just start from scratch and save up to make a new rig?

it's very possible that it's bad ram...if you feel like purchasing ram to trouble shoot this...by all means try it...i don't want to say that that is a promised fix...as it could be any number of other things

I also just discoverd that I have been using a PSU which is under the mobo's minimum for about a year and a half now... Could that have done permanent damage to the computer, causing increased instability now? Well, I am going to buy a new PSU, just to see if this is the problem. More to come later.

yes...yes it could cause permanent damage...but we can hope that it didn't...but an underpowered psu would account for virtually all of the symptoms that you're having now

Well, put the new PSU in, CPU fan spins, no beeps, no POST, no visual output, this is all with or without memory. I think this mobo is fried, thats possible given that it was underpowered for so long isn't it? Could any/all of my peripherals also be damaged beyond repair?
