like warrior said, DDR2 will be about the same as DDR, some get it because it's cheaper than DDR but you need a new CPU and when M2s come out they'll be quite expensive so the differnce won't be there. And with DX10 coming out and not being backwards compatable with DX9 or below, you're stuffed, i'm getting the X800GTO or 6800GS and then ditch it for the new DX10 cards, i'm not spending 800NZD and find out in a few months time, it's obselete. of note is also the plan to try GPU sockets much like CPU sockets where you buy GPU, you stick cooling and maybe ram. Also is the new PhyXs card, for calculating Physics in game so just be aware, if you don't plan to upgrade often Skt 939 is good as the CPus are really cheap now, but with the gfx card, i still recommend getting one that does the job ok, not the X1800s or 7800s cos you'll be left in the dirt

Not sure about the DX10 thingy but right now for sure, intel has AMD nailed. AMD put out all of it's big guns(the X2s and dual core Opterons in one go and now have nothing to counter Intels new releases. AMD are really not able to move from 90nm and intel is in the 65nm already with the new Presler dual cores, bigger cache size, a few changes to the P4 with Cedarmill cores, the new intel core solo and duo, and soon, near july intel will bring out new Centrinos based on the Core solo and duo and also in june, the first laptop CPU to reach 3Ghz in dual core form which is the Merom and then the Conroe version of the Merom, a really no holds blow up AMD CPU with 4Mb or 8Mb of cache. AMD is really caught out here with only the M2 Skt being out by april and those CPUs will be expensive. It'll in the form of Orleans cores with DDR2 support with new X2s using the Windsor core and a new CPU, the 5000+. Also is the top of the line FX-62 that's coming out. So although AMD is some what countering, there isn't many changes and serverly lacking in the laptops. But of note is the Manilla Sempron cores. Intel is also releasing new chipsets while the nForce 4 will look to stay until M2 is out. and nVidia is releasing the C51XE northbridge and MCP55 southbridge to support. the nVidia R80 is set to come in April or May

I recived a e-mail from a guy who has been doing up story's for the new M2 processors that AMD is coming out with. They are scheduled to be released in june......and not sure on the price but will be more than the current FX-60

AMD have them ready for release however they are waiting for nvidias new mobo chipset and price reduction on ddr2, and AMD you forget are starting from an advantage and the turions are getting an upgrade as well, but AMD made there name on desktop gamers and they are still going to be the best in that market. The duos are great laptop chips, but AMD have never truly competed in that market until the turions and the turions have the advantage that you can put them in a palmtop, also 65nm process for amd will be starting about the same time as AM2 comes out, but they are both licked because IBM and there R&D team have got the size down to<40nm without increasing manufacturing difficulty.

So would it be advisable to build a new system today with the best that AMD has to offer now...exp: like the fx-60 and current memory. Or would it be better to wait until the new M2 stuff comes out???

If youre spending that personally i would wait until the summer for DX10 and the M2 socket but thats just me, youre damned if you do damned if you dont with computers.

that is interesting about the 40nm thing. but i think that DX10 will be a bit dodgy to begin with should Microsoft release it before it's ready, a thing it's known for
