I used a disc to download NAV. We have been emailing back and forth for weeks, and I have done everything they suggested. I even ran the recovery disc on my computer. After that I was able to get the "Live updates" (which I couldn't before). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again in the safe mode. Still can't open - evidently the download doesn't completely install. I uninstalled again and downloaded the free trial version from their site. Same thing.

Can someone please tell me what is wrong with this computer? Thank you!

Welcom to Geeks to Go Pete!

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Hi Pete,

Please post the Hijack Log as suggested by Ditto, so we can see if there's anything running on your system that may be interfering with Norton. A lot of Viruses and Trojans specifically target NAV (because it's so popular).

Also, try this online virus scan:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

Or, even uninstall Norton and try AVG free anti-virus program (it's very good):
