I just bought Civilization 3 and installed, the first screen was black with a message "cannot display this video mode" then it went into a preview screen witch I could see then the main screen went back to black with the same message and I had to restart my PC, I have a dell and just had XP reinstalled 3-weeks ago. I have played many other games with no problem since then.

If your using the plug and play monitor driver try updating the driver from the manufacturers website because the plug and play one has been known to cause this problem.
