I have got a NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX400 16mb graphics card, which needs replacing. Unfortunately, I have no idea what to replace it with. Has anyone got any ideas.
We need more info, as I cannot help you or guess your hardware.
You need to tell me your computers specs:
How fast is it? What is the processor speed and how much memory is on it.
Do you have an agp slot for video card upgrades?
Do you have just the regular pci slot?
What model is the pc or brand..
Just need some kind of information and I can help you alot more.

I think it's a regular PCI (but, I am not sure)
As to the machine, as far as I know it's a toshiba (about 2-3 years old)

Install it and then click the mainboard tab/button.
It will list what busses you have available on your motherboard.
Tell me if it says agp bus Yes
if it says agp bus No then you dont have agp and you will have to get a regular pci slot.

If you could post what you use your computer mostly for that would help a lot.
Do you play any games, if so what sort, any new games you want to be able to run with a new card?
please name them.
Any video editing or graphic work?

I mostly use the PC for games and creating desktop wallpaper for my friends.
The games I normally play are: Sim City 4, Age of Empires, Empire Earth etc. The graphics package I use is Paintshop Pro 8.1.
I hope that helps.

Go for something like a ati x700 which has 9.6gb/s will play all those games fine. If you are more of a gamer you will need to spend atleast around $180-$200 for a higher end card. You should be fine with that card as long as you dont get into any of the newer games like call of duty 2, half life2, battlefield 2 etc.. then you will need something more like a 6800gs or an x800 of some sort.
x1600 ati card
cost $140 and is pretty close to the cost of a 6800gs would be. A 6800gs you can get for $180 which is 32gb/s and will play any game on high settings. You just need to make shure you have atleast a 300-350 watt power supply.
