It was all fine till recently....
I cam across this site and took help in removing aVundo virus form one of my frined's laptop.
I am very impressed and installed hijack this and cleanout (?) software and delted all the files it recommended it wanted to delete including some redundant registry entries et. I did not even think too hard on consequences due to my faith in the good work being done by this site.

Now every time I double click on my computer at the desktop I get this BSOD
Windows
________
A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C007BBEC in VXD dfs (01) + 00003460. The curretn applicaiton will be terminated.
* press any key to termiante the current application
* press control alt delete again to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applicaitons.
Press any key to continue....

When I press a key, the second BSOD is as below:
a fatal exception 0D has occurred at 16CF:015F75B6
when I press a key after that some time I get my GUI back and I am able to proceed to work as normal.

This kind of behaviour also happens on some programmes where I need to browse for a file... the applcaiotn goes dead. I can restart the progam agfain but I may be going thorugh this cycle again.

This is very annoying.
I want to know if there is any thing I can do to fix this. ( short of re-installing)

This Pc is part of a MS-Windows Network and part of a domain. An AD client for Win9x was installed and later on removed(uninstalled) I am not sure if this is compunding the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

This will rebuild rather than restore the registry and also replace missing or corrupt system files

Boot the PC and keep tapping F8 right after the beep until you get options, select command prompt only, type scanreg.exe /fix then press enter, it will run through a few screens then say registry repaired. Press enter then press ctrl + alt + delete keys together to reboot.

When Windows has loaded, click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools, system information, tools then run system file checker and replace any files it asks for from the 98SE CD then reboot.

When it has loaded to the desktop, click start, programmes accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then run disc defragmenter from system tools

Download, install and run Tune Up 2006 Trial

Run Tune Up disc clean up

Run Tune Up registry clean up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, the screen will lose colour during the process which can take a few minutes and then needs a reboot

Those will have cleared the drive of obsolete software errors

These are suggestions for making the most of the free trial

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor
