You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\Program Files\WildTangent <<this folder

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe<<be careful and make sure you are deleting this file and not the valid file.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. :tazz:

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\hpyiut.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished

Close all programs down, leaving only HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Narrator] C:\WINDOWS\system32\woycir.exe
O4 - Global Startup: hpyiut.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into safe mode and find these files and delete them.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\hpyiut.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\woycir.exe

Empty your temp. files again.

Reboot.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look.

hey coachwife6... i did what you said but some things did not happen exactly as per your instructions. When i went to close hpyiut.exe from my task manager it was not there. however, i was able to complete the tasks involving hijackthis. in safemode i was unable to locate the file hpyiut.exe (though i was able to locate it when i was not in safe mode). i deleted woycir.exe and when i rebooted, i saw hpyiut.exe was no longer in the startup folder... hopefully i did everything right... thanks!

i don't kno why but when i check my task manager, woycir.exe keeps turning on and off and im unable to end the process. i checked to see if the application is still in C:\WINDOWS\system32\woycir.exe but it is not. in other user accounts, however, woycir.exe is in their accounts.

I need you to turn off system restore. Instructions are given below.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Close all programs down, leaving only HijackThis running.
Place a check against the following items:

one more thing.. i dunt know if this is relevant, but when i scan with Ad-aware SE Personal, i found that i have 2 coolwebsearch files on my computer... do u know what i should do? no matter how many times i delete it using adaware, it always comes back. thanks!
