Hello. I have a very interesting situation. When I turn off my computer, my mouse doesn't turn off. The light is going and short of unplugging the mouse or PC, there is nothing else I can do. Do you have any idea what that may be? This is weird.

(1) – How long has this been happening –
(2) Is this a Cordless Optical Mouse with Batteries –
(3) Do you have – the [PC Turn ON Function] via Mouse and/or Keyboard
(4) What type of PC – [Laptop] – [Desktop] – [Tower]
(5) Lastest Updates/Upgrades

(1) I used non-optical before and just got this one

(2) Non Cordless, without batteries.

(5) None, except Windows updates. I just installed windows XP Pro 2004, Ipgarded to SP2 and did all other updates.

does the light stay permanently on? or does it like..get brighter for a little bit every once in a while?

It operates as a regular optical mouse. The lightg is dimmed when I remove the mouse from the surface or stop using it after a second or two. And then it gets back to bright when it is on surface and is "in use." This normal pattern pesrists even after the systen is powered down.

Turn Mouse over & look on the – [Underside] – should have – information -
(1) Model Number
(2) Manufacturer
(3) Description
(4) Voltage / Current

Disconnect the PC – [Power Cord] – from – [Ac Power Outlet] –

(1) Does this shut down the Mouse – [When AC is removed from PC]
(2) Is PC a Laptop
(3) Do you have a – [Battery Backup] – or [Uninterruptible Power Supply]
(4) Do you have – [Surge Protection]
(5) Do you have a – [3 Prong AC Plug] or are you using a – [3 Prong –to – 2 Prong] Adaptor Plug

If the PC is not a Laptop – Can you tell me the Manufacturer & Model Number of Power Supply –

Possible Defect –
(1) Defective PS/2 Port
(2) Missing Chassis Ground
(3) Missing Safety Ground
(4) High resistance short
(5) Compromised AC House Wiring

The Optical Mouse only needs a few milliamps to keep the lamp on – So either the PS is not bleeding off or there is a small leakage – This is probably not significant issue – but it could be a –[Safety Issue] – if the AC Safety Ground is missing – and/or – the AC House wiring is –[Compromised] –

Hi. Sorry for delay. Here's what it says on theback.

Optical Mouse, 5v 100mA, S/N 030063235

Made in China

All other info is FCC, ETC.

1.) I turned power supply off which shuts down mouse as well as Network cable indicator on the back.
2.) This is a Desktop mid-tower.
3.) No Battery backup for this PC at this time.
4.) Yes I do have surge protection, NOT battery.
5.) 3 Prong AC Plug

Power supply is Antec TruePower TRUE 480.

House wiring is fine and I don't get any alerts from surge protectors.

When you shut down, do you then go to the back of the computer and turn off the power supply switch? I have two AMD systems with optical mouse. The light on the mouse remains "on" after I shut down, until I turn off the power supply switch.

Ok – The [Network Led] is wired to [Standby Power] – Along with the – [Power ON LED] on Motherboard which is an Indicator that AC Power is Present –

I suspect that this may be the case with the Mouse – PS2 Power is wired to Standby Power – either by intent or not – To indicate – [Power On] -

[Powering Down] does not remove AC from PC – There still is – [Standby Power] – [ON] –

This could be a [Jumper Option] on Motherboard – for both [PS2 Ports] to be Powered from [Standby Power] – Check Documentation Details -

What about Keyboard – Is it a [PS2 Keyboard] – Does [NUM Lock LED] – [ALL Caps LED] & [Scroll LED] activate [ON] with associated Key Operation after [Powered Down] -

I normally turn all power off after I [Power Down] – However my [Optical PS2 Mouse] & [PS2 Keyboard] are [OFF] after [Power down] – but my both [Network Card LED] & Motherboard [Power ON LED] remain on until I shut my [AC Power] OFF –

there is most likely a bios feature to solve this. on a few of my computers, they have various acpi features that communicate with the os. for example, when the os is done shutting down, it talks to the bios and the bios will completely shut down the system (usually). this advanced sytem also allows for things like hitting the power button on your computer, but yet instead of instantly shutting off, your system will do a soft shutdown. well anyway, there is most likely a bios feature to shut off power to external devices once the os flags the bios to shut off all power.

The keyboard is off completely. It is USB keyboard, since my regular keyboard connection gives me problems, such that keyboard works every other time, and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to make it work, But back to the mouse, I will find out what is up. Worse case scenario, I will have to just turn the Power Supply off.

are you using an adaptor like usb to ps2 if you are thenn it wll be always be on because usb turns itself of when there is no power

If you want to turn the light off,

turn off the switch at the back of your computer.

It will have no power so it wont be able to have power

Yea. That is what I said back in post #8. Turn off the power, problem goes away.
