Problem with external HDD

Hello, I have fitted an old 9gig hard drive to a new external usb enclosure, the problem is that when i try to access the files in my documents access is denied.

I altered the security settings for my documents so that i could get access to the file, but no look with the files inside the folder.

when you say you changed the security...did you take ownership of the files and folder?
