command prompt problem

when i use command prompt through the start menu - all programs - accessories - command prompt i can access stuff but when i use run then type in regedit it gives me an error message
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

Is this possible to fix without reformatting?

I dont know if this is related but when i write a program in C++ and execute it and the black screen comes up to type in the variables once i enter all the data it just closes instead of giving a result

regedit is an exe file..not a .com file


Please go to the malware forum in my signature and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.
