Loophole sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you in the other thread I started, I seen where it was closed but we have had two deaths in the family and things have gotten delayed. I told you about the friend of mine from Mexico that had been running wide open with no protection for about 4 months and now he is having some serious problems. I have ran Spybot Search and Destroy and found 75 problems and fixed them. I am going to post you a Hijack this log so you can see what is going on. This may take me a couple of days to get back with you but I promise it wont take me as long as it did the last time.

Also I downloaded AVG Free but did not install it because one of the problems Spybot found was a AntiVirus disabler. I thought we needed to get the system cleaned before installing anything.

Many thanks in advance :tazz:

I have found about 9 different versions of AOL installed on this computer so I removed them and it required a restart, while restarting I also found a browser hijacker is on the computer. When you restart the computer IE automatically starts up and it is redirected to an adserver website. It stays there a couple of seconds and then it starts going to other advertising websites.

Isn't Backweb a malware program? I thought it was and Backweb lite was not, or am I reversed on these? This computer has Backweb on it.

I will be looking forward to your reply on this subject.

Again Many thanks.

Sorry Tim I just happen to see this. I have subscribed to the thread now

Sorry to hear of your family misfortune.

Backweb Is an optional program. Some consider it spyware ,but its not malicious so to say.It is made by Compaq. It won't hijack your browser as you have described. You can remove it if you wish

The hijack log is basically clean. So lets have a closer look

Download WindPFind

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt

After you post the Winpfind results

Please run this online virus scan:
Panda Active Scan You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.

Loophole the WindPFind scan will not run. It starts and then stops mid way through and I get an error message saying that there isn't enough virtual memory available. It tells me that Windows is updating the virtual memory and the scan starts over. I let this run for two days like this and this was all it would do over and over, so I stopped it.

What should I do?

Hey Twise :tazz:

Lets start over with a brand new Hijack log since it has been so long since the first one and just forget about winpfind for now but I would like to see the active scan report if you have it. :)
