I'm helping my brother-in-law build a new computer. Since we always like to do things in the best way possible, he bought two 200GB WD SATA hard drives that we want to configure as a RAID1 array.

Well...we during the Windows install we can get as far as creating/deleting partitions and no further. On that screen where the drive(s) usually shows up with a size (in the bottom portion of the screen), it only shows that there 4 unknown drives. There is no way to select a drive to create/delete a partition and when any other key is pressed we get a BSOD.

Any thoughts?

This could be pointing to a setup issue with the RAID configuration.

I presume that you've gone into the RAID configuration screen and built the array in RAID1 format first? Otherwise Windows is just going to say "I'm not interested, now <insert appropriate profanity here>."

Not quite sure why it says 4 unknown drives though, you don't have a card reader or anything like that?

sounds like you made the raid controller drive disk wrong.,,you are using a floppy disk and then hitting f6 during install, correct?

The answer to the first question is: yes, I did configure the RAID before trying the install. As to your statement, yes there is a card reader there. I think we might try disconnecting the reader and trying again.

The answer to the second question is: I'm not sure where to get the RAID controller from. I looked through the manual and it does not reference making a disk (I have also done this at work with a different MB and that manual has instructions on how to create the RAID floppy). I suppose I'll have to look at the MB manufacturer website for more info.

You can usually make the F6 disk by booting off the motherboard CD, if an appropriate disk hasn't been supplied already.
