I need help trying to locate a program that my family can download on their computer as well as mine so that when they are having difficulties I can access their computer from my own. When I lived on a college campus, the computer techs at the school had a program that allowed them to do this if they were given access from me by means of giving them my IP address. Does anyone know what this is called and if there is anything like that out there. Thanks.

Thanks for the help so far everyone. I am trying to help my parents who are no really computer savvy so since I live in NC and they live in NY, I thought that instead of trying to show them things with words over the phone, I could control their screen so that they can see what I am doing and learn. So completely different network. So far I downloaded RealVNC but really don't know how to use it. I can't really find any tutorial on what I downloaded. Would appreciate any assistance you all can give. Thanks.

I am getting so frustrated. I had my parents download the entire program of realvnc and I was unable to connect to them. I have their IP address but still nothing. Is there something I am missing. Is the WAN IP the same as the IP address.

for vnc to work across the internet you need to #1...make sure that vnc is allowed throug your firewall...and #2 enable port forwarding so that you can vnc through the router to the machine on the inside...since you're trying to connect to the router's ip...the router has to forward any vnc traffic over to the proper port on the pc
